Emergency preparedness
The goal of emergency preparedness is to ensure the safety of all members of the child care community. This includes the children, their families and the child care facility staff. Each caregiver’s first responsibility is to protect the children. When caregivers are worried about their own needs and about the welfare of their loved ones, they are less able to give their full attention to the children in their care. Adults who work in child care have added responsibilities when planning for emergencies. Before an emergency occurs, they need to plan for their personal needs and the needs of their family members.
All North Carolina child care facilities listed on this site have participated in the Emergency Preparedness and Response for Child Care Training, supported by funding from the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child Development in collaboration with The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Department of Maternal and Child Health in the School of Public Health.
